Fete Home Ambassador: Susan K. Feldman

Susan Feldman has been an inspiration to us for many years. A true mover-and-shaker, an entrepreneur, a mother and a fellow tabletop lover, we are honored to have her as a Fete Home Ambassador and a friend.

Growing up, Susan moved around a lot. Experiencing different cities piqued her interest in travel, art, fashion and, as she says, “all things beautiful”. After graduating from UCLA with her MBA, Susan spent 20 years working in the world of fashion. When furnishing a new home in Los Angeles proved difficult, Susan imagined a new kind of home shopping site. In 2008, she and Ali Pincus founded One Kings Lane – a design focused e-comm site that rocked the home industry in the most awesome way.

Today, Susan celebrates life after 50. Her latest venture, In The Groove, is a positive, online editorial and shopping site where Susan highlights her favorite things, shares her insights and research, and keeps things fun!

Read on for Susan’s tips and tricks for setting your summer table with Fete Home.

Fete Home: Why do you love to entertain?

Susan: Nothing makes me happier than entertaining. It covers so many things I truly enjoy, and it is such an amazing creative outlet. I love bringing different groups of people together. Every event or occasion is special, and that’s what keeps it fun and interesting. Most of all, I just love having people in my home and the feeling of love, laughter, and having a great time that fills the space.

Fete Home: What’s something we’d never find at one of your parties?

Susan: Paper plates, napkins, or cups . Also no plastic silverware!

Fete Home: What’s something we’d always find at one of your parties?

Susan: Gorgeous floral arrangements and beautiful tablescapes.

Fete Home: What’s the inspiration for today’s table?

Susan: To bring people together, connect with others and make memories!

Fete Home: What’s the inspiration for today’s table?

Susan: I am so ready to start entertaining again! I decided to invite a few couples over and I wanted the table to feel special but still have a casual, comfortable vibe. The mix of materials really helped to accomplish that! I love the mix of the linen print with the rattan, and the gorgeous ceramic vases and salt & pepper shakers. It is all about texture.

Fete Home: What’s your favorite item in this Fete Home collection?

Susan: OMG, there are so many things that I love it is hard to pick one! If I have to pick, it has to be the Octagonal Placemat. The size is so fabulous, chic, and has a real elegance to it. It’s also easy to dress it up or down.

Fete Home: What are your tips for creating a stylish table setting?

Susan: Setting a table should be fun - there is no right or wrong way to set a table. Start with your foundational pieces ie napkins, placemats, dishes, glasses, and flatware. Then you can really have fun with all of your accessories. I always love trying something new but don’t be afraid to get creative and use things that you already have in your home! You probably have lots of things in your home that you can incorporate into a beautiful tablescape. I have a big collection of brass elephants and I am always using them as part of the table setting. Pick up a fun textile on your next trip and use it as a tablecloth.

Fete Home: What do you love about what you do for a living?

Susan: I love being an entrepreneur. Nothing is more satisfying than having an idea and bringing it to life. Creating One Kings Lane was a dream, and today I’m having such a fabulous time building Get In The Groove. I love shining a light on women 50 plus. We are so dynamic, experience and inspirational. I want In the Groove to help keep women on the sharper edge of what is happening in fashion, beauty, and health and have a good laugh at the same time. But the bigger mission is changing the conversation around ageism. If we start showing the world who we are and what we can do, we can start to break down the barriers of ageism.

Fete Home: What’s your go-to hostess gift?

Susan: It isn’t a bottle of wine. I like to personalize my hostess gifts. One of my favorite gifts is to print a fun picture of the host and put it in a beautiful frame. A fun bonus is to include a lottery ticket. Just make sure you negotiate what to do if it’s a winning ticket!

Fete Home: What's your go to song at Karaoke?

Susan: Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell!

Fete Home: What's the greatest invention of all time?

Susan: I think it would have to be GPS.

Fete Home: If you could have any super power what would it be?

Susan: It would be being able to be in more than one place at the same time.
